Amazon Echo Show 10 vs Google Nest Hub Max: Which is the best 10-inch smart display?

The new Google Nest Mini is set to sound even better too, withy the inclusion of an extra speaker. There's no right or wrong approach really – Google's is simpler, but Alexa's encourages faster and broader development and support from third-parties. Alexa's Drop In feature only works with other Alexa-enabled devices. Your browser is not supported or outdated so some features of the site might not be available. At the bottom of the back panel, there's a connection for the included power cable, a USB-C port , and a 3.5mm jack for wired audio input.

For the midrange models, the Echo and Nest Audio sound similar, with generally good audio quality that can easily fill a room. The Nest Audio lacks a bit of bass, while the Echo doesn't have much treble finesse, but both still offer high-quality sound considering their size and price. The discontinued Google Home Max was easily the loudest first-party smart speaker out there, but it's no longer available.

Based on those two fronts, the Google Home Max has been praised just a wee bit overenthusiastically. The Google Home Max is the best-sounding smart speaker on the market, but there are plenty of “dumb” powered speakers that sound better. Google’s largest and most powerful smart display is the best one we’ve tested for Google Assistant. It has a clear screen, a built-in camera and we were impressed that its facial recognition means it can personalise the reminders and messages you see when you look at the screen. We’ve already explained above that Google Home slightly lags in third-party smart device support when compared to Alexa.

You won't benefit from the hardware options, but it's a great way to make a soft transition. If you're concerned about privacy, the Echo Show 10 offers peace of mind with a physical shutter. If a moving smart display is just a bit too much for your comfort, the Echo Show 8 might be a better fit. Google's smart display still shows off family photos better, and in general Google's interface is more intuitive. However, it can only do so much when it comes to this new camera-panning trend.

Google Home: 9 simple things it still can't do, but Alexa can

It's best to place each of your devices in a separate area to prevent any instances where they begin communicating with each other. Select Add Device, or the plus "+" button on the top-right corner of the app, to add a new device. In the Alexa app, select Add Device or the plus "+" button on the app's top-right corner to add a new device. Home Entertainment Whether you want to build your own home theater or just learn more about TVs, displays, projectors, and more, we've got you covered.

Again, your location may determine what other music services you'll be able to access on your Google Home. Remember, each device can stream music with a simple voice command, as long as you say the right wake word. While you may not want two songs playing simultaneously, both devices have music streaming options that work for every type of consumer. On the other hand, Google Home is a smart hub compatible with other Google-powered devices like Nest cams and thermostats and Google Chromecast.

Voice-controlled technology enables you to interact with different consumer electronics with voice commands. When comparing Google Home vs. Alexa, they have several similarities and differences. Some ways that Google Home outperforms Alexa-enabled devices include the ability to handle multiple commands and the ability to answer questions more thoroughly and correctly, thanks to its connection to the search engine.

Both companies’ speakers can also sync with each other to play the same music across speakers in different rooms. Whichever brand you prefer, it’s a really useful feature when you want the whole house playing a song for a party or if you’re just walking back and forth among a few rooms while doing chores. Alexa lets you create customizable routines that can be combined with IFTTT for mind-blowing results. For instance, it can automatically detect when the contact sensor on a window is open to pause the heating and turn it back on when it's closed. Similarly, it's more precise and reliable than Google Assistant if you want to secure your home when you're away, with triggers based on smart home devices, timers, and complex actions.

Voice Control and Digital Assistants

In 2016, I went with Google Home speakers since I used Assistant on my phone and had a Chromecast. I bought many more Google and Nest products, including a Home Max, Nest Audio, Nest Mini, and two Nest Hubs. While these smart speakers may fill similar roles in the home or office, they have considerably disparate designs.

The speakers themselves don't make that choice any easier, because both are quite good; the Echo has been our Editors' Choice winner for a long time, but the Nest Audio is a close runner-up. The Echo's bass is a bit better and Alexa can use multiple wake words, but the Nest Audio sounds quite clear and Google Assistant is easier to talk to thanks to more flexible natural language recognition. In the sub-$50 price range, the Echo Dot has a clear edge over the Nest Mini in audio quality, but even those two smaller speakers work well for what they are and offer the same choice between voice assistants.

Stepping down from those models, the Echo Dot has a bit of an edge over the Nest Mini, which has fairly weak bass and midrange. Of course, these smaller speakers are much more suitable for nightstands and desks than serving as a room's main audio device. Getting a review unit late, as is the case with the Google Home Max, gives me the benefit of reading a lot of people’s opinions of a product before I formulate my own. And reviewing a lot of similar speakers before I evaluate the one at hand gives me a broad base of experience upon which to formulate mine.

When you buy one smart speaker, you’re basically committing to that line of speakers because you need to spend some time making them useful and getting used to their quirks. So the different products you can buy to supplement or upgrade your smart speaker experience could move your needle. While both the Echo speakers and the Google Nest speakers produce decent sound, we have to give the edge to Google here. When you listen to both speakers side by side, it’s no contest that Google’s smart speaker sounds richer and fuller.

I’ve gotten so used to saying “Alexa”, that remembering to say “Okay Google” instead often trips me up. Unfortunately, they won’t actively cooperate with each other, with neither company having an incentive to make that happen. In short, Google Home and Alexa will work together, in the sense that there’s nothing stopping you using them in the same house or even the same room.

However, YouTube and YouTube TV, are available on the Google Nest Hub Max only. Google’s 10-inch digital display has a built-in Chromecast allowing to stream videos from many video apps, Like Disney+. 32% of marketing organizations use smart speakers like Alexa and Siri. According to a report published by Statista on Jan 22, 2021, 4.2 billion digital voice assistants were used in 2020.

In fact, for a speaker this size—not tiny, but not massive—you get a disproportionately full bass response. This is a powerful sound that'll appeal to fans of deep bass, yet the speaker doesn't forsake the overall balance of the mix, as the highs are also well represented. We'd like to have seen track navigation controls onboard—you'll be skipping tracks either on your phone itself or with the power of your voice and Google Assistant. But there's no reason to exclude them from the design if you're choosing to include volume and playback controls. And hey, if we're being pie in the sky, it would have been great to enhance Google's voice options with direct streaming from Tidal or another lossless audio service.

He's heptalingual and has lived in 5 different countries, but has decided to settle in Paris for the time being. Both the Echo Studio and Home Max have physical buttons to control their mics. When you turn the switch off, the mics are electronically disabled — they don’t have power, and they can’t pick up any audio at all.
